How To Celebrate Halloween In Florida

8/23/2017

Fall will be here before we know it, and for many people across America, that means breaking out the sweaters, hats, and gloves because winter is coming. For Floridians, however, it just means the year is coming to an end, and they’ll keep enjoying all of their leisurely outdoor activities. October is the perfect time to visit Florida. The peak summer prices at Disney World are winding down (before they ramp up again near Christmastime), the average high temperature drops to a comfortable 84-degrees, and the summer rainstorms and hurricanes have mostly dispersed.

5 Florida Halloween Activities That Are Scary Fun (And Just Plain Scary)

  1. A Petrified Forest: This is described as one of the best Halloween haunted events in Florida. Taking place in Altamonte Springs, this event is just a short drive from your Florida vacation home. This event isn’t a haunted house, but a haunted trail. Being in a dark forest surrounded by trees and monsters adds to the spook-factor. Best of all, you have a couple opportunities to participate in a “Total Eclipse” night, where you are only allowed a glow stick to light the way through the trails. The Total Eclipse event is so scary, that participants must be over the age of 18 and sign a liability waiver.

  2. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party: You can probably guess that this one takes place at none other than the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. During this event, guests can go trick-or-treating throughout the park, watch fireworks, and enjoy a family-friendly parade. This event starts in September, but if you’re planning on coming on Halloween, be sure to book your Disney vacation rental early!

  3. Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights: If you want to ditch Disney World for Florida’s other major theme park, Universal Studios offers a scarier option for Halloween lovers. At this park, you can roam the streets with hordes of monsters, villains, and maniacs that are reminiscent of some of your favorite horror movie antagonists. This event also includes themed haunted houses. This year includes houses based on the TV show American Horror Story, and the classic thriller film, The Shining. Here’s Johnny!

  4. Spooky Empire: This Orlando Halloween event is sort of like Comic Con for horror film buffs. This event has a special draw of having celebrity guests. Past guests of honor have included Weird Al Yankovic, actors from Friday the 13th and Nightmare On Elm Street, and the main cast of the Netflix horror sensation, Stranger Things. This is an event that adults and film lovers will appreciate more than kids, probably.

  5. Annual Florida Bat Festival: This event in Gainesville might be a bit of a drive from your Orlando vacation home, but it is possibly the most unique on our list – and definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity (unless, of course, you come back next year)! This one-day-only event takes place on October 21st this year, and gives patrons an opportunity to get up close and personal with live bats at the Lubee Bat Conservancy. This event is perfect for the whole family and includes opportunities to do free bat-themed crafts, play games, view education exhibits, and experience some great local food and music.
